This is a group for people interested in shifting to a diet comprised predominantly of food from within their own geographic location.  Why should I care about this, you ask?  The main reasons for me are that 1) in shipping food across the country, or even the world, we release huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, 2) in order to keep foods "fresh" during transport, loads of preservatives and other chemicals are loaded on - that's nothing I want to ingest!...and 3) I want to support local economies, and local farmers and markets, rather than giving all my money to the big guys.  What does being a locavore mean to you?  Read less
